How to avoid scope creep
Keep a project flexible without losing control of priorities, schedule and budget.
Write assumptions down
Scope creep often begins as different interpretations of an unwritten assumption. Record what is included, what is supplied, and which ideas are deliberately deferred.
Use a change process
Changes are normal. The goal is to make their impact visible before work begins.
- ✓Describe the requested change
- ✓Estimate cost and schedule impact
- ✓Identify work it replaces or delays
- ✓Get approval from the named owner
- ✓Update the shared scope
